ABOUT
The DanceBARN Youth Camp is a 5-day sleep-away camp for dancers hosted in Battle Lake, Minnesota. The camp is a joyous mix of dance technique, choreography, and all of the fun things associated with a traditional summer camp including campfires, lake time, and making new friends.
BATTLE LAKE
Battle Lake, Minnesota is a resorting community nestled in "the heart of the lakes" that thrives off of summer tourism. The town is supportive of the arts and always ready to learn from the dancers attending the festival. We would love you to share your passion for dance with our town!
Covid-19 Considerations
In order to safely gather, we will put the following policies in place:
-
All campers must be tested and receive a negative Covid test within 1 week of arriving at camp.
-
All teachers, choreographers, and chaperones working with the dancers must receive a CDC approved Covid-19 vaccine prior to classes.
-
DanceBARN is adopting new sanitizing and cleaning protocols for all studios and living spaces.
-
Campers will only be sharing rooms/beds with others they approve ahead of time.
-
Adjustments being made for communal meals to ensure safety.
We are still SO excited about:
-
Guest dance company, AMP, will join us for the week, teaching amazing classes and setting choreography on the campers.
-
Unique and diverse set of classes taught by other local artists
-
Beach time, evening activities, dinners, and ice cream!
-
Building new friendships.
-
Opportunity to perform at the end of the week.
Camp Schedule
We will post the full schedule once camp gets closer but here's a snap shot:
2023 Teachers & Choreographers
MOLLY & AYUMI
DanceBARN Co-Directors
& Teachers
Molly and Ayumi first met in graduate school at the University of Oregon in 2011. After earning MFA degrees in dance, they reunited in Minneapolis in search for something they could be passionate about. Always wanting to host a festival in her hometown, Battle Lake, Johnston was eager to get something started. Shafer was excited about starting a collective where dancers and other artists could have an environment to create, learn, and share. Together they have continued to organize community performances, residencies, Screendance projects, and festivals hosting both professionals in dance and LOVE working with young dancers during CAMP WEEK!
Alternative Motion Project

We are so excited to welcome our guest choreographers and teachers from Alternative Motion Project to Battle Lake for Camp this year!
